Staying Safe Online

Start-Up Activity

Share the "Think About It" quotation that compares the Internet to the Wild West. Explain that the online environment is full of exciting opportunities for finding information and interacting with others. However, hazards make parts of the Internet unsafe. As a result, some boundaries are necessary.

Work with students to create a list of rules for using the Internet at school. Post a finished version of your list next to any classroom computers you have.

When wading the online waters, students need to develop safety habits to stay afloat. This page provides tips for developing safe online habits. Lead students through the tips and explain why each one is important.
