Making Albums Opening Page

Start-Up Activity

Collecting items in an album satisfies students’ need to gather, arrange, and preserve memories.

Have students describe and/or share any scrapbooks or albums they have seen or made. And if possible, share examples of scrapbooks or albums you have compiled. Then read and discuss the chapter introduction. Discuss with students possible themes for future albums they may want to compile. (Possible themes: vacations, holidays, moving, fairs, tournaments, hobbies, the seasons)

Think About It

Making a Special Person or Pet Album

This page provides guidelines for creating a special-person or pet album. You could link a special-person album to a famous person students are studying in social studies or a pet album to the study of animals in science class.

Enrichment activity: Create a classroom album, dedicating one or two pages to each student. Allow students to design their own pages, using school photos, photos brought from home, drawings, and/or magazine pictures—along with captions and headings.
