This online unit helps fifth graders develop their grammar skills. They learn to write complete sentences and avoid run-ons, combine and expand sentences, use perfect tenses, and avoid accidental tense shifts. Students choose specific nouns, active verbs, and correct usage. They also focus on comma rules and punctuating titles. Each of the 24 lessons starts with an instructional video followed by rules and examples. Two illustrated grammar activities and one writing activity help students build their language skills.
You get Google doc activities, answers, standards correlations (grade 5), and more teaching support. Students who struggle can shift to Building Grammar, Usage, and Punctuation (grade 4), while high-flyers can move up to Strengthening Grammar, Usage, and Punctuation (grade 6)—more online units in the Inside Grammar series.
Developing Grammar, Usage, and Punctuation works well for in-person and distance instruction. You can assign activities on paper or as part of a Google Classroom workflow. Each standards-based lesson is correlated to CCSS, LAFS, and TEKS.
