Using Commas in a Series

A series is a list of three or more items joined with and or or.

The petting zoo had a dog, fish, and snake.

To keep the list clear, place a comma after each item except the last. Notice the same list without commas.

Without Commas: The petting zoo had a dog fish and snake.

       (A dog fish is a shark.)
