Using Conjunctions 2

clock

The conjunctions and, but, and or connect ideas that are equal.

The clock struck eight, but we stayed up late.

(The conjunction but connects two sentences into one compound sentence.)

Other conjunctions connect ideas that aren't equal. Watch for when, unless, if, after, though, and other subordinating conjunctions.

When the clock struck eight, we stayed up late.
