Writing a Summary

Once you finish prewriting, you are ready to begin writing your summary. These writing activities will help you create a strong beginning, middle, and ending.

Writing the Topic Sentence

The topic sentence is the first sentence of a summary. It should name the title and author of the article and state the article's main idea in your own words. The following formula can help you summarize the main idea.
