Using Words Correctly 1

icecream

Some words have subtle differences in meaning. Pay attention to the following:

  • among, between: Among refers to three or more things. Between refers to just two things.

Chocolate, rocky road, and fudge swirl are among my favorite ice cream flavors.

If I had to choose between vanilla and strawberry, I'd choose vanilla.

  • amount, number: Amount refers to a quantity that you can't count. Number refers to individual items that you can count.

I'd like a large amount of ice cream.

What number of scoops do you want? How about three?
