Using Punctuation for Effect

fish interviewing a cat

To show strong emotion, use an exclamation point instead of a period.

Fluffy watched Finn.

Fluffy watched Finn!

(The period makes the first sentence calm. The exclamation point makes the second sentence exciting or alarming.)

To emphasize an idea, use a dash (—) instead of a comma.

Finn wasn't just a fish, but a catfish.
