Using Commas with Direct Address

interviewing

Sometimes when you talk to someone, you say the person's name. That's called direct address.

How did you earn so much money, Darius?

Clare, I'm glad you asked.

Separate the person's name from the sentence using a comma. If the name interrupts the sentence, use a comma before and after the name.

Mostly, Clare, it was through pledges.

If you use a title in place of a name, also separate it.
