Using Commas and Semicolons in Compound Sentences

You can join two simple sentences into one compound sentence. Use a comma and a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet).

Our jazz band plays Big Band songs.

My favorite is "Take the A Train."

Our jazz band plays Big Band songs, and my favorite is "Take the A Train."

You can also join two sentences using a semicolon.
