Using Commas and Semicolons in Compound Sentences

You can join two simple sentences into one compound sentence. Use a comma and a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet).

Jie loves to paint portraits.

She asked me to sit for her.

Jie loves to paint portraits, and she asked me to sit for her.

You can also join two sentences using a semicolon.
