Using Active Verbs

The voice of a verb tells you whether the subject is doing the action or receiving the action. For clear and energetic writing, use active verbs. A verb is active when the subject of the sentence performs the action.

Eduardo tosses a newspaper.

      (The subject, Eduardo, is doing the action of the verb, tosses.)
