Using Active and Passive Verbs

An active verb tells what the subject of the sentence is doing.

Chris caught the pop-fly ball.

       (The verb caught tells what Chris did.)

A passive verb tells what is happening to the subject.

The pop-fly ball was caught by Chris.

       (The verb was caught tells what happened to the pop-fly ball.)
