Once you write the first version of your summary, take a quick break and come back to it to see it freshly. Then work on making improvements. That's what revising is all about. These activities will help you along the way.

Revising to Use Your Own Words

In a summary, you must use your own words to state the main ideas in a reading. This is not always easy to do. See below a sentence from a textbook chapter and how one writer effectively restates it using her own words.
