When words separate the subject from the verb, make sure the verb agrees with the true subject. To help you with agreement, try reading the sentence without the words separating the subject and verb.
Clive, as well as Kisha and Estelle, enjoys surfing.
(Clive, not Kisha and Estelle, is the subject, so the singular verb enjoys agrees with the singular subject.)
When the subject follows the verb, check carefully to make sure the verb agrees with the true subject.
Along the shore are jagged rocks.
(The plural verb are agrees with the delayed subject rocks.)
